The Cape Egmont Half Marathon offers a challenging and picturesque route through the Taranaki region. The course features an undulating terrain that begins with a gradual incline through rural country roads, providing participants with vistas of rolling hills and pastoral landscapes. As runners approach the halfway mark, the course transitions to a gentle decline towards the coast, culminating at the Cape Egmont Boat Club and a replica lighthouse, marking the finish line in Warea.
Participants have the option to tackle the course solo or as part of a two-person relay. The relay splits the course into two distinct legs, with the changeover occurring at the peak of Mid Newall Road, offering a strategic element to team participants.
This event serves not only as a physical challenge but also as a community gathering in memory of Andrew Smith, a local runner and community member who passed away from brain cancer. His passion for running and his courageous spirit are commemorated through this race, which also supports a greater cause, with all proceeds donated to the Taranaki Cancer Society. Each finisher is awarded a medal, symbolizing both personal achievement and contribution to the community’s fight against cancer.
