The Rotorua Run The Forest event features a series of trail runs/walks that capitalize on the unique geothermal and Redwood trails of the area. Each course starts from a different location, utilizing the distinct natural environments Rotorua has to offer, and converges at the Government Gardens for the finish.
The longest course, the Pohutu Geyser Trail, offers participants the opportunity to experience a diverse range of scenery including geothermal landscapes, which are a hallmark of the area. Starting from Te Puia, this trail provides a comprehensive tour of the natural beauty and cultural significance of the region.
The Geothermal Traverse introduces runners to the steaming pools of the Whakarewarewa Living Māori Village, leading into trails lined with Manūka and entering the iconic Redwoods. This middle-distance option offers a blend of cultural and natural attractions.
The shortest route, the Redwoods Trail, is notable for its accessibility and scenic variety, including the renowned Redwoods, Sulphur Flats, and views of Lake Rotorua. This flat course is particularly suited for those seeking a less demanding route that still offers the full experience of Rotorua’s exceptional landscape.
This event not only showcases the natural and cultural richness of Rotorua but also brings together a community of local and visiting participants. The convergence of all courses at the Government Gardens creates a festive atmosphere where runners and walkers can celebrate their achievements together.
