This annual orienteering event is held in Christchurch, featuring a unique format that challenges teams to navigate a course with five legs from a mystery drop-off location. Teams are given 24 hours to complete the course, which revolves around a central base known as the ‘Hash House.’
The Hash House serves as a hub of activity, equipped with music, a live scoreboard to track team progress, and a kitchen staffed by volunteers who provide hot meals throughout the event. The course allows for flexibility, as teams can choose which checkpoints to pursue, with leg distances ranging from 10km to 20km.
A mandatory 30-minute grace period at the Hash House between each leg encourages teams to regroup and strategize. The atmosphere is typically lively, with a strong sense of camaraderie among participants and community support, making it a distinctive experience for both competitors and spectators.
