The event features a scenic course that ascends Wainuiomata Hill, reaching a lookout point 195 meters above sea level. Starting from central Wainuiomata, participants can choose between two main routes: a shorter 6.5km path that leads to the lookout and back, or a longer 10km course that traverses over the hill before returning.
The atmosphere encourages both running and walking, catering to a variety of participants, whether competing solo or in groups. The event is designed to embrace community involvement, with a special Buggy Half Hill option for families, allowing prams, front packs, and trikes. A flat 1km dash is available for children aged 5 to 10, fostering a family-friendly environment.
In addition to the physical challenge, the event highlights local culture by supporting the Kokiri Marae Pātaka Kai, promoting a sense of community and shared purpose among participants. The beautiful bush surroundings add to the experience, making it not just a race, but a celebration of the region’s natural beauty.
