The Buller Gorge Marathon features a route that begins at Hawks Crag, traversing along the Buller Gorge Highway. The course is noted for its picturesque views and varying inclines, leading runners to a turnaround point near Berlin’s Hotel before concluding the race at Victoria Square in Westport. The half marathon shares this scenic route, starting near the Ohika-iti River Bridge and finishing at the same location as the full marathon.

Additionally, the event includes a marathon team relay, allowing participants to experience the course in teams of four, promoting a sense of camaraderie and shared achievement.

The Buller Heritage 10km offers a distinct experience on the Kawatiri Coastal Trail, characterized by flat gravel paths, timber boardwalks, and bridges, providing a unique running surface and scenic coastal and forest views.

The event attracts a diverse group of participants, ranging from competitive runners to local community members, fostering a vibrant and supportive atmosphere. The use of various local landmarks and natural scenery highlights the cultural and environmental significance of the region, making it a memorable event for all participants.
