• Course Features: The Toi’s Challenge takes place on the Ngā Tapuwae o Toi track, providing a loop that offers varied terrain including steep coastal hills, two beaches, and bushland. The route includes numerous steps and offers panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and distant islands.
• Unique Aspects: Named after the Maori chief Toi, the track holds historical significance, dating back about 800 years. This adds a cultural dimension to the race, connecting participants with the history of the area.
• Relay Option: Participants have the opportunity to complete the longer distance either solo or as part of a relay team, accommodating different levels of fitness and providing a team-building experience.
• Secondary Race: In addition to the main event, there is a shorter race known for its challenging ascent through the local ‘Birdwalk’ bush track, leading up to beautiful vistas before descending to Rex Morpeth Park.
• Organizers: The event is organized by the Whakatāne Athletic & Harrier Club, ensuring a well-coordinated experience for all participants.
