The Meridian Hydro Half Marathon offers runners the chance to explore Fiordland’s natural beauty from a unique vantage point. The course begins near the historic site of the Manapouri Hydro Construction Village at Kepler Farm. With the majestic Mt Titiroa rising in the backdrop and the expansive World Heritage Fiordland National Park adjacent, runners are treated to world-class landscapes throughout the race.
Following a path along the Upper Waiau River towards Lake Te Anau, the route transitions to a lakefront trail, culminating at Steamers Beach. This course layout not only showcases the serene lake and lush surroundings but also challenges participants with its varied terrain.
This event supports local community initiatives, with proceeds aimed at extending and maintaining the Fiordland trails. Participants are encouraged to contribute to these efforts during the registration process.
In alignment with environmental sustainability efforts, the race is a cup-free event, urging all participants to bring their own water bottles or cups for use at refilling stations positioned along the course. This initiative helps in minimizing waste and preserving the pristine settings of the Fiordland area.
