Middle-earth Halfling Marathon™

The Middle-earth Halfling Marathon takes runners on a scenic off-road journey through the iconic Shire, featuring landscapes familiar from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films. The course traverses the verdant hills of the Waikato region, offering participants a mix of terrain that includes grassy knolls, panoramic vistas, and pastoral farmland dotted with streams and tree lines.

Challenges along the route include a variety of elevations and some unexpected elements that add to the adventure. Runners will encounter both familiar and exclusive locations, such as the charming Hobbiton village, Gandalf’s Cutting, and the Sackville Orchard, leading up to the famed Bag End. The path then descends towards Bagshot Row and skirts a picturesque lake.

Unique to this event is the opportunity to visit The Green Dragon Inn, where participants can pause for refreshments before heading towards the finish line near The Shire’s Rest. This race blends physical challenge with the thrill of traversing through storied settings, making it a memorable experience for participants of all abilities.
