The Taupō Marathon features a course that takes runners along the picturesque Great Lake Pathway, offering expansive views of Lake Taupō and the surrounding snow-capped mountains. The marathon consists of two laps of this scenic route, while the half marathon covers a single lap. Both start and end at Tongariro Domain, near the Great Lake Centre, providing a loop that is as visually rewarding as it is challenging.
The event includes shorter distances that cater to a wide range of participants, from competitive runners to families and children. The atmosphere is festive and inclusive, making it a significant community event that attracts a diverse crowd. Additionally, the Trail Tigers kids’ dash offers younger participants a chance to enjoy a 1-kilometre loop through Riverside Park, which also concludes at Tongariro Domain.
This longstanding event not only highlights the natural beauty of the Taupō region but also brings together local and international participants in a celebration of fitness, endurance, and community spirit.
