The race
About this course
This multi-day adventure race takes place in the stunning Aoraki Mt Cook region, with a registration hub located in the alpine village of Twizel. The race format involves teams of four navigating a challenging course that features a variety of disciplines, including mountain biking, trekking, packrafting, ropes, and coasteering. Each team must have a support crew to assist them throughout the event.
The GZ Pure offers an extensive expedition experience, with teams traversing rugged wilderness areas for up to 8.5 days, making it one of the most technically demanding adventure races globally. In contrast, the GZ Pursuit is designed to be more accessible, featuring a course that is shortened or adapted to allow teams a better chance of completing the entire route within the time limits.
The atmosphere is a mix of camaraderie and competition, with participants often forming strong bonds as they tackle the elements together. The event fosters a sense of community, drawing in local support and involvement, which enhances the overall experience for both competitors and spectators.
