Mauao King and Queen of the Mountain

The Mauao King & Queen of the Mountain is a long-standing event that highlights both the natural beauty of Mount Maunganui and the community spirit of Athletics Tauranga. Participants embark on a challenging course that begins on the beach, leading to the summit of Mauao before returning along the same path. The start and finish line are conveniently located on the Mount Main Surf Beach, opposite Mt Drury.

This year introduces a social walk component, allowing participants to enjoy the scenic ascent to the summit at a more leisurely pace. Spot prizes from local sponsors add an element of excitement to the event.

For younger participants, there is a Junior race for those under 15, which covers a portion of the trail to the tree line, providing an accessible introduction to mountain running. The event fosters a family-friendly atmosphere, catering to both casual and elite runners, making it a welcoming occasion for the community.
