Mauao King and Queen of the Mountain
The Mauao King & Queen of the Mountain event features a challenging course that begins with a run along the picturesque sands of Mount Main Surf Beach, ascends to the summit of Mauao, and then returns via the same route for a descent and final beach sprint. The course is known for its rigorous incline and scenic views encompassing the Bay of Plenty.
A new addition to this year’s event is a social walk, catering to those who prefer a more relaxed pace to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. This option allows participants of all fitness levels to experience the ascent at a leisurely pace.
For younger athletes, there is a junior race designed for participants under 15. This race reaches up to the tree line of Mauao and returns, offering a shorter yet equally challenging route for younger participants.
The event fosters a family-friendly atmosphere, encouraging participation from both competitive runners and those looking to enjoy a day out with the community. Spot prizes from local sponsors add an element of excitement to the race day experience, enhancing the communal spirit of the event.
