The Merrell Race Tekapo features a variety of courses, each designed to showcase the beautiful landscapes of Lake Tekapo and its surrounds. The 50km race, which is the longest available, utilizes a figure-of-eight route starting from the lakefront. This design not only highlights scenic views but also facilitates multiple viewing opportunities for supporters, enhancing the community and spectator-friendly atmosphere of the event.
Participants in the 32km race will experience a diverse terrain that includes flat trails and challenging hills. This route incorporates Mt. John and the Regional Park, including a picturesque segment along the Lagoon Loop. The half marathon follows a similar path but without the Lagoon Loop extension, catering to those who prefer a slightly less demanding course.
For those looking for shorter distances, the event offers a fast and flat 16km course, ideal for personal best attempts. The 10km route challenges participants with an ascent up Mt. John and a circuit around Lake Tekapo, providing both a physical challenge and exceptional views. The 5km course is designed as a scenic loop, offering a more relaxed race experience through the Regional Park and lakeside paths.
All courses allow for running or walking, ensuring accessibility for a wide range of fitness levels and athletic capabilities. This inclusivity is a hallmark of the event, encouraging wide participation from the community and beyond.
