Saturday 2 January 2027
Pāuanui, Pāuanui Surf Life Saving Club
The race
King of the Mountain is a short, sharp and seriously rewarding challenge up one of the Coromandel’s most iconic peaks – Mount Pāuanui.
At just 7.7km, don’t let the distance fool you. The course takes runners from the golden sands of Pāuanui Beach, straight up and over the summit before a fast descent back to the Surf Club and the finish line.
It’s a race for everyone – from those hunting a fast time and a place at the pointy end, to walkers and runners simply wanting to start the year by taking on something bloody hard.
Expect steep climbs, technical trail, spectacular views and an unbeatable sense of achievement. Held on 2 January, it’s become a classic way to kick off the New Year in Pāuanui.
One mountain. One challenge. Earn your crown.
