The Porirua Grand Traverse offers a variety of challenges that cater to different levels of athletic ability, from novice runners and cyclists to seasoned multisport athletes. The multisport event is particularly notable for its diverse course, which includes a kayak section across Porirua Harbour to Pauatahanui and back, offering participants unique views of the water and surrounding landscape. The course continues with a mountain bike segment, featuring a range of trails around Porirua that are typically not accessible to the public. The final leg of the race, a mountain run, traverses through native bush, private farmland, and along secluded coastal beaches, providing scenic vistas of Porirua and the distant Cook Strait.
The standalone 10km Fun Run, which starts at Titahi Bay Beach, includes a convenient bus service from the race headquarters to the starting line, facilitating easy access for participants. This event, like the others, is deeply embedded in the local community, with routes that showcase the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the Porirua region.
Each race within the Porirua Grand Traverse is designed to highlight different aspects of the area’s geography and community spirit, making the event a comprehensive celebration of both fitness and regional pride.
