The Rage Against Riverhead event features a trail run set in the commercial pine forests of Riverhead, offering participants a challenging yet scenic course. The terrain consists of smoothly flowing single trails and wider dirt tracks, with a minimal portion on a gravel road. Each 5km lap presents a vertical gain of approximately 60 meters, adding to the physical demands of the race.
Participants can choose to run solo or in relay teams, with options for teams of two, four, or six. The race emphasizes endurance and strategy, as teams work to complete as many laps as possible within their chosen time frame of either 8, 12, or 24 hours. Unique to this event is the course layout, which weaves through a “tent city.” This setup allows for seamless transitions directly outside each team’s tent, fostering a vibrant and communal atmosphere as runners exchange places and supporters cheer from close quarters.
The event not only tests physical stamina and team coordination but also enhances the communal spirit, making it a distinctive experience in the setting of Auckland’s lush forestry.
