The VetSouth Gorge Adventure Race takes place in the scenic Lora Gorge, utilizing the surrounding farmland to challenge participants with a diverse course. The race is designed for teams of two to four members who must efficiently navigate to various control points scattered throughout the area, each assigned a different point value. Efficiency and strategy are key, as points are deducted for late returns.
Participants can choose from several race formats, including trek-only options of three or six hours and a combined six-hour mountain biking and trekking challenge, catering to different levels of endurance and skill. Additionally, the event offers a two-hour Family Taster Race, which provides a more relaxed experience suitable for families and less experienced racers.
The race serves not only as a competitive adventure but also as a community fundraiser. Proceeds are directed towards significant local initiatives, including the development of a new multi-use turf at Central Southland College and supporting the Limehills Netball Club, Browns Fire Brigade, and Central Southland Junior Hockey Club. This blend of community involvement and adventurous spirit makes the event a meaningful gathering for participants and supporters alike.
