The Auckland Duathlon Championships offers a run-bike-run format that caters to participants aged 12 and above. The course takes advantage of the scenic Manukau Harbour and the architectural presence of Māngere Bridge, providing a picturesque setting for the competition. Participants will navigate a combination of off-road concrete paths and gravel surfaces within Ambury Regional Park during the running segments. The cycling portion is conducted on managed, low-traffic roads such as Kiwi Esplanade and Ambury Road, ensuring a safe and uninterrupted racing experience.
The event welcomes both newcomers and experienced multisport athletes. It includes competitive elements such as prize money to encourage top performance. Since its inception in 2009 by the Auckland City Tri Club, the event has evolved from its earlier days as the Pukekohe Sprint Duathlon, gaining prominence in the local duathlon scene. This growth reflects its increasing popularity and the community’s enthusiastic engagement with the event.
