The Coastal Five is a unique running festival set in the picturesque Taranaki region, offering participants a chance to cover a marathon distance across five different races over two days. Each race showcases distinctive local landscapes, from the serene Coastal Walkway to the lush surroundings of Pukekura Park, the botanical diversity of Pukeiti Gardens, and the tranquil Lake Mangamahoe.
The first day challenges runners with a combination of a half marathon along the scenic coast, a 4.5km cross-country run through varied terrain at Lake Mangamahoe, and a 5km route through the iconic Pukekura Park. The second day continues the adventure with a 10km run featuring the hilly trails of Pukeiti Gardens, culminating in a brisk 1-mile sprint on the flat, fast track of the New Plymouth Racecourse.
Participants have the flexibility to enter individual events or combine all races to complete the full marathon distance. This format not only caters to a variety of fitness levels but also allows runners to experience the rich natural and cultural heritage of the region while engaging with the local community. The event attracts a diverse group of participants, from local enthusiasts to visitors, fostering a vibrant atmosphere and a strong sense of camaraderie among runners.
