The EVES Surbreaker triathlon at Mount Maunganui is a well-established event, having been a fixture in the triathlon community since 1985. Distinctively, it features a swim leg that takes place in the surf of Mount Main Beach, offering a unique challenge compared to more typical calm-water swims. This race draws both amateur and elite competitors, creating a vibrant atmosphere where participants can watch some of New Zealand’s top triathletes compete in the more demanding 6-leg version of the event. Post-race, the local cafes provide a great spot for relaxation and socializing, enhancing the communal feel of the event. The course includes options for different levels of participants, from those new to triathlon to seasoned athletes, with both sprint and super-sprint distances available.
