The Hātea Grand Prix features a scenic course that begins at the Tikipunga football club carpark. Participants will traverse the Tikipunga Sports Park on grassy terrain before following a track that meanders alongside the Hātea River. As the route continues, it transitions into the Waitaua Stream, eventually reaching Vinegar Hill Road, where participants will turn around and return to the start point. The course is shaded by trees, offering a comfortable environment for runners and walkers alike, and its relatively flat profile makes it suitable for an enjoyable summer evening experience.
This event is timed, with participants accumulating points in various divisions throughout the series. There is an emphasis on personal achievement, as runners are encouraged to strive for personal bests to earn additional points. Community involvement is evident, with Hātea Run members participating for free while non-members can contribute a koha of $5. The atmosphere promotes friendly competition and camaraderie among participants.
