About this course
The Night Series by Hātea Run offers a unique winter running experience in Whangarei, set against the backdrop of the eastern trails of Parihaka Reserve. The course begins at the Abbey Caves car park, leading participants down the link trail to the forestry ridge road. Runners then ascend the service road towards the summit, enjoying views of the surrounding landscape. Midway up, a left turn onto the forestry road marks the turnaround point, requiring participants to retrace their steps back to the start.
As the event unfolds in darkness, participants are reminded to bring a reliable headlight or torch. The atmosphere is characterized by a sense of camaraderie among runners, with community support evident throughout the series. This event emphasizes safety and preparedness, underscoring the necessity of proper lighting for an enjoyable experience.
