
The Old Ghost Ultra Marathon features a challenging course along The Old Ghost Rd, recognized as New Zealand’s longest continuous single-track trail. Set in a scenic region near Westport on the West Coast of the South Island, the route presents participants with over 2600 metres of cumulative elevation gain, testing their endurance and resilience.
Runners have a time limit of 17 hours to complete the course, with top competitors expected to finish between 8 and 9 hours. The event is organized by the Mokihinui-Lyell Backcountry Trust, a not-for-profit organization that has played a significant role in developing and maintaining The Old Ghost Road. This community involvement adds a layer of local pride and support to the race atmosphere.
