The race
The course begins near the Visitor Centre carpark, featuring a mix of compacted gravel, grass, beach, asphalt, and coarse gravel. Participants will traverse the Orokonui fence line, navigating down the coastal connection cycleway to Doctor’s Point beach. The route then loops back around the Orokonui lagoon before entering the sanctuary, culminating in a climb through the protected forest.
With approximately 600 meters of elevation change, the varied terrain offers a challenging yet rewarding experience. Participants gain a sense of accomplishment not only through personal achievement but also by contributing to biodiversity efforts, as all proceeds support wildlife advocacy and conservation initiatives at Orokonui. The atmosphere reflects a strong community commitment to environmental stewardship, enhancing the overall experience of the event.
