Palmerston North, Ongley Park
The race
This annual event encourages youth participation in physical activity, targeting children aged 6 to 15. The course begins with a swim leg in the Lido Aquatic Centre’s outdoor pool, providing a controlled environment for young swimmers. Transitioning to the bike leg, participants navigate the streets surrounding Ongley Park, which are typically traffic-managed to ensure safety. The run leg takes place within Ongley Park, offering a scenic and supportive atmosphere.
Participants can enter as individuals or in teams of two, allowing for a collaborative experience where one member swims and cycles, while both complete the run. Additionally, a ‘Splash n Dash’ aquathon is available for younger participants, specifically designed for 6-year-olds.
The event fosters community involvement, with local families and organizations often coming out to support the young athletes, contributing to a vibrant and encouraging environment.
