The race

About this course

The Scenic Circles Backyard Ultra features a unique last one standing format set in Centennial Reserve, Timaru. Participants complete a loop of 6.7056 kilometers every hour, returning to the designated area before the next hour begins. Competitors must maintain their pace and strategy, as the event continues until only one runner remains.

This event emphasizes self-sufficiency, as there are no aid stations; runners are responsible for their own nutrition and hydration needs throughout the competition. The atmosphere is often marked by camaraderie among participants, who share in the challenge and support one another.

The course itself offers a scenic backdrop, with the surrounding landscape contributing to the overall experience. The event encourages community involvement, often drawing spectators who come to support the runners as they test their endurance and resilience. For detailed rules and guidelines, refer to the event’s official website.
