
The course for this event features a scenic 5km out-and-back loop along the Great Lake Pathway, also known as Lions Walk, that stretches to 2 Mile Bay. Participants can enjoy picturesque views of Lake Taupō, enhancing the running experience with natural beauty. The starting and finishing point at Wharewaka Point adds to the charm, offering a family-friendly atmosphere with facilities that accommodate spectators and participants alike.
For younger participants, the event includes a 1.5km kids’ race consisting of two laps around Wharewaka Point. This shorter, manageable distance makes it an ideal introduction for children to the world of running.
The event is known for its relaxed, community-focused atmosphere, attracting both local residents and visitors who enjoy combining physical activity with the enjoyment of Taupō’s summer evenings. The series’ biweekly scheduling on Wednesday evenings helps build a regular community event that participants look forward to throughout the season.
