Wallace Shield: Race 1

Race 1 of the Waimea Harriers Wallace Shield series takes place at Moturoa/Rabbit Island, with the meeting point at the Old Domain Reserve. This event features a unique “guess your time” format, where participants run without watches or phones. Entrants estimate their finishing time for distances of 1.7km, 3.4km, or 5km for running, or 3.4km for walking at registration. The winner is determined by who finishes closest to their predicted time.

The atmosphere is often lively, with community involvement fostering a friendly and competitive spirit. Registration begins at 1.45pm, followed by a race briefing at 2.20pm and the race start at 2.30pm. The scenic beach course adds to the experience, providing a picturesque backdrop for participants and spectators alike.
