The race
About this course
This running event features a series of flat out-and-back courses that commence at Hnry Stadium Walkway and extend south along Waterloo Quay towards the Railway Station. The Marathon and Half Marathon routes offer a scenic experience through the capital’s picturesque harbour bays, with participants passing notable local landmarks. The Full Marathon consists of two laps of the Half Marathon course, providing an opportunity to enjoy the scenery from different perspectives. Both routes meet IAAF and AIMS certification standards, and walkers are encouraged to join.
The event draws thousands of participants annually, reflecting its longstanding popularity since its inception by the Wellington Marathon Clinic in 1986. The atmosphere is vibrant, bringing together a diverse community of runners, walkers, and spectators, enhancing the overall experience. The inclusion of shorter distances, such as the 10 km fun run and Kids’ Magic Mile, fosters community involvement and allows participants of all ages to engage in the festivities.
