The Hātea Grand Prix is a running and walking series that features a scenic course in Whangarei. The event begins at the Tikipunga football club carpark and incorporates pathways through the Tikipunga Sports Park. Participants will traverse grassy areas and follow a track that meanders alongside the Hātea River, which transitions into the Waitaua Stream before reaching Vinegar Hill Road for a turnaround. The route is primarily flat and well-shaded, making it suitable for an enjoyable summer evening run.
The atmosphere is community-focused, with participants encouraged to engage in friendly competition while accumulating points over the series. Each event is timed, allowing individuals to track their progress and aim for personal bests for additional rewards.
Registration opens at 5:30 PM, with the race commencing at 6 PM. Hātea Run members can participate at no cost, while non-members are invited to contribute a koha of $5.
