The Scarecrow Scamper Cross Country event offers a traditional rural experience set on the scenic Bonny family farm in Tapawera. Participants will navigate through private farmland, encountering gentle hills and the potential for muddy stretches, which adds to the challenge and authenticity of cross-country racing.
The course features 3.5km laps, making it suitable for runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. A shorter 1.7km option, known as the ‘Rascal Romp,’ is available specifically for children, encouraging family participation and fostering a sense of community.
Registration takes place at the barn on the farm starting at 1pm, with an event briefing at 1:45pm. Walkers begin at this time, followed by the runners who start at 2pm.
Participation in this event is free, although there is an encouragement for participants to consider joining the Waimea Harrier club, as the race is part of their Winter Programme. The atmosphere is typically friendly and welcoming, reflecting the local community’s involvement in supporting outdoor activities.
