The Waimea Harriers Sprig & Fern event features a 10km fun run/walk that takes place in Māpua, marking the first race in a series of four in the Nelson area. This event is designed to be inclusive, welcoming participants of all abilities and skill levels.
The course showcases the scenic beauty of the Māpua region, providing a pleasant environment for both runners and walkers. The community aspect is emphasized, with a low entry fee of $10, while school children, youth students, and members of Waimea Harriers and Athletics Nelson can participate free of charge.
Registration is available from 1:20pm to 2:00pm, with staggered start times to accommodate different paces. Casual walkers and early runners begin at 1:45pm, followed by speed walkers and faster runners at 2:15pm, with the main group starting at 2:30pm.
For those who may find the full distance challenging, a team option is available, allowing participants to split the distance into two 5km segments. This encourages camaraderie and makes the event accessible to a wider audience.
In addition to the race itself, the event is part of a larger series, fostering ongoing community engagement and participation in local running activities.
