The course for the Taupō Harriers Summer 5K Series takes advantage of the scenic Great Lake Pathway, also known as Lions Walk, extending from Wharewaka Point to 2 Mile Bay. This route offers participants picturesque views of Lake Taupō, enhancing the running experience with a natural backdrop. The course layout is an out-and-back loop, making it simple for new runners to navigate while providing familiar territory for returning participants.
For younger runners, there is a dedicated 1.5 km race consisting of two laps around Wharewaka Point, allowing for a safe and enclosed running environment that is also spectator-friendly.
The series, held on Wednesday evenings, creates a vibrant community atmosphere as local runners and walkers gather bi-weekly, fostering a sense of camaraderie and ongoing engagement within the Taupō running community. This event not only promotes physical fitness but also encourages community interaction in a relaxed setting.
