The Wild West Backyard Ultra

Hokitika, Hokitika
You have 29 weeks to prepare
WebsiteFacebook

The Wild West Backyard Ultra features a unique race format where participants run a 6.71km loop each hour until only one runner remains. This event takes place in the naturally rugged terrain of Hokitika, providing a scenic backdrop that includes dense native forests and coastal views, characteristic of New Zealand’s West Coast. The course challenges runners with its variable weather conditions and natural beauty, adding an extra layer of complexity to the endurance race.

With a cap of 150 participants, the atmosphere is intimate and community-focused, allowing for supportive interactions amongst runners. The looped nature of the course means spectators and fellow competitors are often on hand to offer encouragement, creating a spirited and motivating environment throughout the event. This race not only tests physical stamina but also mental resilience, making it a distinctive fixture in the running calendar for those who enjoy pushing their limits in a supportive setting.
