The Wings for Life World Run in Auckland features a unique format where there is no set finish line. Instead, participants run continuous 400m laps around the Go Media Stadium Mt Smart track. They must stay ahead of a virtual catcher car, which starts 30 minutes after the race begins and gradually increases its speed. This creates a dynamic and unpredictable race environment, as runners do not know exactly how far they will go before being caught.
The event utilizes an app-based system where runners are tracked in real time, adding a technological aspect to the race experience. This global event encourages participants to run simultaneously with others worldwide, fostering a sense of international community and camaraderie.
