The Canterbury Adventure Race features a team rogaine format with three distinct categories: 3 hour, 6 hour, and 9 hour. This event encourages participation from various skill levels, catering to families and beginners as well as more experienced competitors.
The 3 hour category allows newcomers to experience adventure racing, requiring participants to navigate approximately 6km on foot and 12km by mountain bike through off-road terrain, including forestry roads and singletrack paths.
For those opting for the 6 hour challenge, a reasonable fitness level and some navigational skills are essential, as competitors will cover around 10km on foot and 30km on 4WD trails and singletrack.
The 9 hour event is geared towards more competitive teams, necessitating the ability to run or jog approximately 20km off-road and mountain bike about 50km on similar paths. Teams aiming to collect all available controls may find themselves exceeding these distances.
The atmosphere of the event is characterized by a community spirit, with local participants often engaging in the race alongside visitors. This fosters a sense of camaraderie and shared experience among teams. The event is organized by Crazy Kea Events, which has a reputation for facilitating well-coordinated outdoor activities.
