The Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon in Christchurch is tailored specifically for children aged 6 to 15, focusing on promoting active, healthy lifestyles through participation rather than competition. The event incorporates a swim leg held in the outdoor pool of the Te Hāpua: Halswell Centre, followed by a cycling leg around the adjacent streets and concluding with a running leg within the Halswell Domain itself.
Participants have the flexibility to compete individually or in pairs. In the two-person team setup, one child is responsible for the swimming, the other for the cycling, and both join together for the running segment. Additionally, for the youngest participants aged 6, there is a ‘Splash n Dash’ aquathon that consists of a swim followed by a run, designed to introduce them to multi-sport events in a fun and supportive environment.
The event is characterized by its community-focused atmosphere, encouraging family and friends to support the young participants in a scenic and well-facilitated public park setting. This offers an engaging day out for everyone involved, fostering a sense of community and achievement among the participants.
